BMW Group to Increase Production Capacity at South Carolina Plant

Perhaps you have seen an increasing number of new BMWs cruising around Meridian. However, Meridian is not the only region where drivers are choosing BMW with growing enthusiasm. Across the globe, people are overwhelmingly impressed by the Bavarian luxury brand. To fulfill drivers' insatiable desire for speed, elegance, and outstanding performance BMW manufactured more than 70% more vehicles than in 2010. We most likely don't need to explain this to you; but this signifies a record high level of production for BMW.
As the demand for BMW vehicles continues to rise this year, the company is evaluating different ways to further increase production. BMW came to the conclusion that an investment of $900 million into the BMW production facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina was the appropriate solution. This will create approximately 300 new jobs.
This expansion follows on the heels of four similar growth initiatives made 1994 (when the facility first opened) to 2011. One thing to note about the Spartanburg facility is that like the cars it makes, the plant is state of the art. Since 2006, the South Carolina BMW plant has managed to reduce energy consumer by nearly 50 percent, and waste/car by 65 percent.
BMW will invest the aforementioned $900 million into the eco-conscious plant 2012-2014. The 300 new jobs will all be added by the end of this year.
